Some of the cast of Grey’s Anatomy had an unexpected reunion during the 2024 Emmy Awards, appearing onstage to present the Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award. And we’re not just talking, like, a couple random Seattle Grace alums. Major names like Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., and Chandra Wilson showed up!
And naturally, they had some banter, with Katherine saying, “Yes...there have been some changes over the years, but the one thing that has remained a constant is the incredible fan base.”
It’s obviously a big deal that Katherine showed up for this reunion—especially given her Emmys controversy back in 2008.
Ya know, when she withdrew her name from Emmy consideration after winning the previous year because she “did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant” a nom? That whole thing.
But FYI, Katherine has since talked to Ellen about the blowback from her comments, saying during Variety’s Actors on Actors, “I was in my late 20s. It took me until probably my mid- to late-30s to really get back to tuning out all of the noise and going, But who are you? Are you this bad person? Are you ungrateful? Are you unprofessional? Are you difficult?” She clarified, “Because I was confused! I thought maybe I was. I literally believed that version and felt such shame for such a long time and then had to go, Wait. Who am I listening to? I’m not even listening to myself. I know who I am.”
She also got emotional while chatting about what the Emmys reunion meant to her, saying the fans’ excitement is ultimately “why we do it, but it’s also just fun for us, because it’s sort of this odd nostalgic walk down memory lane.”
